Boat Gas Dock Reminders
In an effort to protect our coves and waterways here at Canyon Lake, it is important for boat owners to prevent pollution and avoid leaks or spills. Boats having leaky gaskets and filters or poor fueling practices cause many small releases or spills that add up over time. Here are just a few reminders and helpful tips that boat owners can do to help with prevention:
- Shut-off all engines during fueling
- Use an absorbent pad or fuel collar to catch drips
-
Know the fuel capacity of the boat’s tank and do not top off.
- Maximum 90% full
- Keep bilges dry and oil free. Avoid oily discharges
- Use absorbent pads to clean-up releases or spills
Boat Motors
Boat motors should also be tuned and bilges checked for oil leaks before launching any boat. An oil-absorbent roll in the bilge area will temporarily take care of any oil drips and can be used to catch any fuel before it spills into the water. The oil-absorbent pads and rolls should be readily available to clean up drips and spills.
