COMMUNITY UPDATES

Canyon Lake POA
Memorial Day Hours

The Canyon Lake POA offices (including Member Services) will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, May 30. We hope everyone has a happy Memorial Day.

Lake Testing Update

On May 23, 2023, water samples from Happy Camp and Sunset Beach were taken and sent to a lab in Sacramento for further testing. Both areas have tested within a safe level to be reopened in time for the Memorial Day weekend. Please be advised that for several years, the Canyon Lake POA and Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) have cooperated to test Canyon Lake’s recreational water prior to major holidays. On May 8, 2023 samples were also taken from Holiday Harbor Park, Indian Beach, and Sierra Park with results indicating those areas were at a safe level.

Boating Rule Reminders

With the weather warming up and boating season around the corner, it's important to remember the rules that keep everyone safe on the water. One such rule is LM.2.6 - the prohibition of reckless or negligent behavior while operating a motorized boat. Marine Patrol will be monitoring for violations, especially in the East Bay where the speed limit is 5mph OR no wake. Let's all prioritize safety and follow the rules while enjoying the lake.

Lake Location Markers

Have you ever noticed the large letter signs that can be seen on the lake at several of the beaches and parks around the community? These letter signs are actually Emergency Locations Markers (ELM's) with latitude and longitude coordinates attached to them. The letters go from A to O, and the locations of each letter were coordinated with the assistance of the City of Canyon Lake and the Canyon Lake Fire Station.  Residents who have an emergency at a park or on the lake can refer to the letter when they call 9-1-1. The letters are stored in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system so that the location can be determined quickly.

PROJECT UPDATES

Solar Project

The solar structures are well underway at the Canyon Lake Golf Course over the driving range tee box. There are two separate solar shade structures at the driving range due to an EVMWD sewer line easement between them. The two structures will be connected with a dark shade cloth appearing as one, and will provide continuous shade.

The solar project has been in development by the last 10 boards over the last 10 years. The Finance, Facilities Planning Committee and  Green (Golf) committees were all involved in this project, throughout its development. This project will provide much needed shade along with decades of clean energy and millions of dollars in savings to the Canyon Lake POA operating budget – all at zero upfront cost.

Lodge Renovation

This week work continued on the stage/bandstand with steel arch beams installed, and the area was prepped for Fiesta Hopper this weekend. Click here to see progress photos in our Flickr album.

This is all still part of the first phase that focuses on the exterior patio and bar area. Phase 2 is the restaurant area, and Phase 3 is the lounge/dance floor. Dividing the project into these three phases allows the least disruption to the restaurant and bar functions so that the restaurant may remain open during construction. Our goal is to have this entire renovation complete by fall 2023. The renovation will not affect concerts and events in the Holiday Bay Room. We intend to keep the restaurant and bar open as much as possible throughout the construction.

Canyon Lake Drive Medians

Work is wrapping up on revamping our 55-year-old medians on Canyon Lake Drive. The palm trees have been planted but require the crowns to be tied up for 12 weeks to help the trees by slowing down their top growth while the roots are healing, making them more stable against strong winds. It also helps reduce water loss through the leaves. The trees will remain tied up for four more weeks to maintain the warranty providing by the tree nursery.

Additionally, we are excited to flip the switch on the nightime uplighting, just in time for Fiesta Hopper!

Did You Know?

The Davis Stirling act, which governs all HOA’s requires that the Canyon Lake POA maintain a reserve study and healthy reserve funds. The Canyon Lake POA's boards have done a great job of this in recent years, and the money for many of these projects is already in the bank. The Davis Stirling act also requires the Canyon Lake POA to maintain all of the common area amenities. This is one of the Canyon Lake POA's primary obligations. All of this helps maintain healthy property values here in Canyon Lake, and helps modernize this aging 55 year old community.
