January 16, 2017 - Tomorrow (January 17), the East Port Dog Park will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Association will be working on adding extra drainage in preparation for the decomposed granite (DG) installation. Once the park is ready for the DG installation, only one side will be worked on at a time so that one area will remain open for use.

The Association's newest amenity is quickly becoming a popular pet-destination. The new Dog Park at East Port Park provides tables, benches, drinking fountains and a two-part fenced area for both small and large dogs. The new park provides a fenced area that our furry family members can roam freely in. Many of us consider our dogs to be part of the family, and it's natural to want to enjoy this beautiful community with your furry companion by your side. Residents have long sought a park dedicated to dogs, that would allow them to socialize and play without being on a leash.

Dog Park Hours:
October 1 – April 30  (8 AM to 8 PM) | May 1 – September 30 (8 AM to 10 PM)

Note: The Association will be enforcing the leash requirement rule (Gr.2.14a) PDF Pg. 61. Dogs must be leashed at all times unless they are inside the fenced area.

PROJECT STATUS:

January 5, 2017 - The Association has installed lighting and a decomposed granite (DG) pathway at East Port Dog Park. Work will begin next week to install DG inside the Dog Park. There will be a mix of DG and grass. DG is the predominant surface for dog parks because it can withstand wear and tear, while filtering and tolerating pet waste. There may be intermittent closures over the next few weeks.

October 30, 2016:  The Dog Park is now open. Fencing, seating and fountains are being installed over the next few weeks. Residents are advised to follow the posted rules and signs. Staff are looking into options for further enhancements; such as shade and grass coverage. Residents celebrated the opening on Sunday, October 30th where the K9 Club hosted their first ever - Halloween Costume Contest!

October 19, 2016: The Dog Park is now under construction. The Association is happy to announce that Dog Park construction at East Port Park is well underway. Fencing, seating and fountains are being installed over the next few weeks. This area is closed off until construction is complete. Please avoid the area and follow the posted signs. Keep an eye on this page for an announcement of a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony once construction wraps up.

September 6, 2016: The Board announced new placement of a Dog Park. Staff are now seeking quotes for a fenced Dog Park on the grassy upper-level of East Port Park.

May 16, 2016: Plans were approved by the City of Canyon Lake. This project has moved to the request for proposal (RFP) phase. Bids will be collected and evaluated in a future Regular Session Board Meeting.

Project Start Date: began October 18, 2016

PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project has been in the works for several years in response to the growing community desire for a dog park where dogs can run leash-free. After much discussion between the Board and the committee, it was ultimately decided that East Port Park would be the most favorable location for the dog park. The design plan for the dog park includes two separate fenced grass areas, one for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. Additionally, there may be shade structures, benches, and water fountains.
